Beating the summer heat with a homemade slush machine

I think everyone hates summer heat, so what’s better than a nice and cold slush to cool down a bit? 😀
To make a slush machine you need few things:

  • A freezer
  • A cylindric container with its lid
  • A stepper motor
  • Polymorph (to make the helix)
  • An Arduino or any other thing with which you can control the stepper motor

Slush machine1

After you have chosen the right container you can start molding the helix so that it can fit the container perfectly.

Slush machine2

The last thing you have to do is drill some holes into the lid to set the motor in place.
Slush machine3Program the Arduino with a code like this:

Before you can use it, you have to specify the helix speed (delay between motor steps in micros) and direction (clockwise or counterclockwise). Send through serial connection something like this:

Now plug everything together (in my case the motor is controlled with a ULN2003), pour your favorite juice in the container, close the lid, put the machine in the freezer and power everything up (your power supply MUST be outside the freezer). Don’t worry about the low temperature of your freezer, the Arduino can work even at -40°C!

Check the machine periodically. After few hours (in my case it took about 3-4 hours) your slush will be ready.

PS: If you want, you can try to use a Peltier cell instead of your freezer :)

Writing a GameBoy emulator

I’ve always wanted to write my own emulator of some of all the retro consoles available out there. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a really good documentation about the GameBoy hardware (which can be found here: http://marc.rawer.de/Gameboy/Docs/GBCPUman.pdf) and I decided to try to build a GameBoy emulator. Right now it is still in a very early stage, it support all the opcodes and memory management but I still have some problems emulating graphics.
Currently it is cross-platform and I’m testing it on a Nintendo DS for testing purpose.
I hope to update you about it very soon :)

Cyan Colorized

Schermata 2013-10-30 alle 23.34.43

Hi folks!
It has been quite a while since my last post, sorry! At Stage3Games we are developing a new game, Cyan Colorized which is the sequel of Cyan (you don’t say 😀 ). We have tried to get some funds with an Indiegogo campaign (http://igg.me/at/cyan-colorized) but we had no luck. Anyway we are still developing it and we achieved a playable status. We still have to add a lot of things but the main structure is ready.
I leave here some screenshot of the current build. Hope you like it!

More infos about Cyan

Hello folks!
Yesterday I metioned Cyan, but I didn’t tell you many details.
First of all, it won’t be free, but it will be available just for 0.79€.
The first version will have 2 modes: classic mode and panic mode.
In the classic mode you have to complete all the levels, one by one, without any limit of time.
In the panic mode you will have to complete ALL the levels, starting by the first one, but you will have only 5 lives to do that. Each level has maximum time to be completed, when the time runs out or when you restart a level(because you get stucked solving the level) you lose a life. When you lose all the 5 lives you will get a score based on the time you took to resolve all the levels.

In a future version we will add a level editor and the feature to share your levels with the whole world 😉

That’s it! Please be tuned to get any updates about Cyan and remember, it will be available really soon on Google Play™!

Stage3Games and Cyan

Hi guys! It’s been a long time since my last post, I’m sorry about that!
Today I want to talk you about Stage3Games and Cyan.
Stage3Games is probably one of the most important step I’ve done in the last few month, it is a dream coming true. Stage3Games is a little software house that me and some friends of mine(basically the team behind Miyamoto Dream Land) opened few month ago.
Right now we are developing an Android game named Cyan. It is a puzzle game in which you will have to move a cyan plat, stepping on all the tiles of the room one and only one time, avoiding obstacles, opening doors, finally arriving on the finish tile.
We are almost ready to publish it, we’re just defining the last details :)

Here they are a couple of screenshot of cyan:
